Best Places to Visit in Tourism New Zealand

There is a quote by Rene Descartes that, “Travelling is almost like talking with those of other centuries”. The idea of travelling away from home to experience a different cultural experience is literally like time travel. Nations around the world are on different phases of their evolution. Some of them are fully developed while others are developing nations. Some parts of world have no time for technology while they strive to just survive. So yes, travelling gives you the experience of the time machine where you get the chance to see nations with different cultures on different phases of evolution.

Tourism New Zealand

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. New Zealand has two land masses that are North Island and the South Island. A lot of unique bird species are found here. New Zealand became the colony of the British Empire in 1840 after a treaty signed between Britain and Maori tribes.

Tourism New Zealand is major business in New Zealand. It’s a famous holiday location for tourists. Though both of the islands offer many adventurous attraction, South Island is more of famous than North Island.

South Island:

South Island is not a densely populated place but it is brimming with outdoor adventures. One popular way to see the South Island is a drive that starts at Christchurch, heads to Mt. Cook, down to Queenstown, over to Fiordlands NP, up through Westland NP, and crossing to the North Island using the ferry from Pictonto Wellington.

Queenstown is located on the shores of a beautiful lake Wakatipu. It is surrounded by a magnificent chain of mountains known as “Remarkables”. And indeed they are remarkable. It’s a very peaceful place. Not that good for shopping point of view but it has few unique outdoor activities to offer. Most famous one of them is a cruise trip. The voyage is on the TSS Earnslaw, an older, coal-fired steamship that somehow fits the area like a comfortable glove. For the fans of the famous Hollywood movie, “Lord of the Rings”, most of the movie was filmed with the backdrop of Queenstown area. You see many souvenirs item with cheap canvas prints of this Hollywood film sold in this area. They also have film sets on display in North Island.

Fiord land National Park is one of the wildest areas of New Zealand. They have to offer lots of activities here like:

  • Boat chartering
  • Jet Boating
  • Kayaking
  • Quad bikes
  • Diving
  • Caves
  • Underwater world

Even if you don’t want to tour Fiordlands, make sure you plan for Milford Sound. Cruising Milford Sound is worth the cost of the trip to New Zealand.

Westland Tai Poutni National Park is also a place not to be missed. Driving through the west coast of South Island is loved my many tourists. The area has rainforest and then active glaciers. The driving can be very difficult here and challenging but well worth the effort.

Fox Glacier is the most visited tourist attraction on South Island. It is relatively closed to the main highway. It is worthwhile seeing both sides of the glacier.

Christchurch has an international airport and thus for many tourists, it is a starting point for their adventure. It is the largest city on South Island. In February 2011, Christchurch was struck by an earthquake and aftershocks. This event also resulted in number of causalities. The result was catastrophic. The rebuilding is in progress and for the moment not many tourist go for this area.
