4 Car’s Automotive Air Conditioner unit Troubles and Solution

In summers, it becomes impossible to travel in the car without Automotive Air Conditioner unit. To keep it in proper shape, it is important that we keep an eye on it. But, most of us take the car AC for granted and always expect it to throw fresh, cool air on us, which is certainly not going to happen if we fail to acknowledge its problems. Recognizing the issues shall help up to address them on time and save it from severe damage. Therefore, every car owner must be aware of the common problems of the AC.

Given below are four points that cause trouble to your car’s automotive air conditioner unit.

Air Conditioner unit

1. Compressor Failure

Compressor is a vital component of car AC. Failure in its working will result in improper cooling and will affect working of other components as well. When you turn on the AC, feel the air. If the cooling isn’t enough, then your compressor might be in trouble. In this case, you should check for blockage in it as that prevents oil as well as refrigerant from circulating in it.

Problem in compressor may also be caused due to wrong lubricant. In that case, get it checked from a licensed mechanic and ask him to change the lubricant. Refer to the car’s manual as vehicle manufacturers usually provide recommendations for compressor oils.

2. Shortage of Refrigerant

This is one of the most serious problems of car AC. Low refrigerant level not only brings down its efficiency, but also causes complete breakdown of compressor. Leaks in seals and hoses are considered to be the key reasons for its depletion. Some amount of leakage takes place in almost all vehicles, but rate of seepage increases as the vehicle becomes older. Hence, you should check for leaks after every few weeks.

You can do so with the help of plain soap water. First, add a little refrigerant to the unit (don’t try to refill). After that, turn on the AC. Once you have done this, start spraying plain soap water on hoses. Watch out for bubbles as they indicate presence of leaks.

Lowering in refrigerant levels is also caused because of AC’s long working hours. If this is the case, you should go for car air conditioning re-gas service. Apart from hoses and seals, other components where you might find leaks are condenser, evaporator, orifice tube and tube connections.

3. Unusual Sound

When you turn on the AC, put your ears close to it. The compressor usually makes noise when it is not in proper condition. However, there are several other reasons for unusual sounds. Another reason of noise is contaminated refrigerant or wrong lubricant in the compressor. One more reason can be rattling of the components against each other. Try to pinpoint the component which is causing the noise. Timely detection would save the component from complete breakdown.

4. Improper Functioning of Condenser Fan

At times, improper cooling is due to improper functioning of condenser fan. Defective condenser fan fails to circulate air properly. This results in improper cooling and increases pressure inside the system. It can also cause damage to the evaporator coil. Check the condenser fan and if there is constriction in air flow, then get it repaired or replaced.

Remember, if there’s a problem in the condenser fan, it is best to avoid adding refrigerant as this will cause overcharging, which will further increase the pressure. However, if you aren’t able to detect the air flow, then better get it checked at car air conditioning service center.

Apart from the above mentioned points, intermittent or improper cooling can also take place because of blockage in filters and accumulated debris in certain components. It is not possible for a layman to solve all the problems, but addressing the problems on time can certainly save the AC from damaging completely. Once in a year, send your car for servicing to a reputed air conditioner unit repair center in Brisbane. This would ensure efficient functioning of the AC unit.
