How to Copy a Table From Perplexity AI (2 Simple Methods)
As a writer, I understand the stress of moving a table from one document to another. Like, I have to sometimes copy what each cell contains, which is very time-consuming.
That’s probably what you don’t want to do, too: copying each cell and its content separately. The good news? you don’t have to do that when copying a table from Perplexity AI. There are methods using which you can copy the whole table in two to three clicks.
I copied and pasted this table in just 3 seconds:
Let’s go through this five-step guide to help you understand how to copy a table from Perplexity AI. Whether you’re copying using your smartphone or your computer, you’ll learn the best way to copy the table on each device.
We’re doing this together. Ready?
3. Copy the Table (Two Methods)
Let’s see what each step entails.
1. Open Perplexity AI
This is the very first step. If you have already opened Perplexity AI, go to the next step. To open Perplexity AI, simply go to its website.
What’s next?
2. Generate a Table
Now, we have to generate the table we want to copy. To do that, ask Perplexity AI to generate the answer to your question in a tabular format. I used this prompt to generate a table about Google’s recent core updates:
Give me all recent Google’s core updates and their dates, and present the information in a table.
You can see that I clearly asked it to present it in a table, so I didn’t have to ask it to convert the data into a table. As expected, I generated the table using that prompt successfully. And here’s the table:
Now, what’s next? We already have our table before us. All we have to do next is…
3. Copy the Table (Two Methods)
Now, we are at the main part. As I stated, we have two ways to copy the table we have generated from Perplexity AI:
- Copy the table to your clipboard (best for PCs)
- Copy the table using code (best for smartphones)
Let’s see how each method works.
For PC Users
To copy the table using your PC’s clipboard, just select the whole table from the first cell to the last one and click copy in your context menu or use the keyboard copy shortcuts–Ctrl C on Windows or Command C on Mac.
Doing that will copy all the cells and their content to your computer’s clipboard, including the tabular style which you’re probably afraid that it won’t be copied along; you’ll see how perfectly it is copied when we get to the pasting step.
What if you’re copying it on a smartphone, the smartphone’s clipboard isn’t good enough to copy the tabular style as PCs do. It only copies the content of the tables, leaving the style out. So, let’s see how smartphone users can copy a table from Perplexity AI.
For Smartphone Users
Pro Tip: Heads up, this method only works when the platform or app you’re going to paste the copied table supports HTML. And Docs and Word don’t support it. So this will work best for bloggers or writers who use Blogger or WordPress or any platform that supports HTML.
If you’re using a smartphone, the best way to copy the generated table from Perplexity AI is using HTML. So, let’s walk through the steps to do that.
1. Ask Perplexity AI to Convert the Generated Table Into HTML
We have already generated the table, so all we have to do is ask Perplexity to convert it into HTML so we can copy it. I asked it, “Convert the generated table into HTML code.” And it converted it as you can see here:
What’s next?
2. Copy the HTML Code
Now, copy the code using either the Perplexity AI’s in-built copy icon that appears within the code at the top right corner or select all the code and copy it.
I have copied the table. Have you? Let’s…
4. Paste the Table
Depending on the copying method you used, we have two methods of pasting the copied table:
- Pasting the table as plain text (for PC users)
- Pasting the table as HTML code (smartphone users)
Let’s see how each is done.
PC Users
It is simple.Just open a document or a writing platform like WordPress and paste the generated table you copied.
I have pasted the table in the Docs, have a look:
Amazing! It is perfect! Isn’t it? That’s how easy it is for PC users.
Smartphone Users
If you’re using a smartphone, then you probably copied the HTML version of the table. So, to paste the HTML, go to your writing platform, paste the HTML code, and save.
I pasted the HTML code in my Blogger website, and, as you can see, the table is just as good as the one I pasted in WordPress using my PC.
You’ve copied and pasted the table. What’s next?
5. Customize the Table
You might want to add or delete some cells from the table to make it more suitable to the document or text you’re working on. Add, delete, and change the style of your table to make it better.
For me, the table is just perfect that way. I don’t have to add or remove any cells or change the style.
Let’s wrap up.
Final Words
You’ve just learned how to copy a table from Perplexity AI. Let’s recap some of the most important points we’ve made so far.
To copy a table from Perplexity AI on a computer, select the table and use either keyboard shortcuts or the context menu to copy it. Doing that copies the whole table and its format.
On the flip side, to copy a table from Perplexity AI on your smartphone, ask the tool to convert the table into HTML code, and then copy and paste it in a platform that supports HTML, like Blogger or WordPress. Copying a table on a smartphone using the “select” method copies only the content of the table, but not its format. That’s why using HTML is the best way to do it.
That’s all for now. If you have anything you want to say or a question you want to ask, the comment section is yours.
