Mobile World Congress this year: Who Said Creoir Ibis Smartwatches Couldn’t Be Stylish?
Read why Creoir Ibis Smartwatches are Stylish
We have seen a lot of models of smartwatches released and announced in the past year. However, there was one thing that all of them had in common – they were primarily sporty looking, quite bulky and not very elegant. Furthermore, they all had a masculine look and didn’t sit quite right on a lady’s wrist. Well, ladies need not feel left out from the smartwatch trend anymore. On February 25th, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Finnish design and development studio Creoir Ltd presented an innovative concept of a dual face smartwatch with the design of a jewelry piece – the Creoir Ibis.
Smartwatches were too sporty
The designers and manufacturers of smartwatches have faced many challenges with achieving a compact body for these smart gadgets that encompass a range of intricate technologies and mechanisms. Furthermore, initially it was the common belief that the smartwatch was a gadget meant primarily for leisure activities, sports and other such informal occasions. Thus, the smartwatch models we have seen so far have been mainly focused on that segment and a sporty design philosophy. According to the technology research giant Gartner Inc. this has been a big hurdle for the success of most smartwatch models. However, the brands have slowly started to realize that smartwatches could be equally useful in other, more formal occasions, too, and hence the demand for something a bit more elegant and sleek. The guys at Pebble realized that and created the Pebble Steel. Now, Creoir have made their move to address the female audience with the Creoir Ibis smartwatch.
The Creoir Ibis
The Ibis smartwatch, designed by Creoir, opens a new era in the history of wearable technology. With its sophisticated jewelry design, it defies the common belief that a smartwatch should be bulky and unappealing. The Ibis is a timepiece crafted out of stainless steel and crystal and according to the Creoir design team, “the design was inspired by a flying bird whose wing tips touch together while carrying a young bird on its back, symbolizing the precious and personal current of information on your smart watch. “
The Ibis has a number of useful smartwatch features, like an optimized Android OS with a custom user interface and low power consumption, the ability to operate on both Android and iOS, Bluetooth® 4.0, USB and Wi-Fi connectivity and a touch-enabled OLED display. In addition to the provision to receive and display notifications from the user’s smartphone, the Ibis also has an e-compass, an accelerometer and an ambient light sensor. Furthermore, the Ibis can be used as a remote control connecting to the wearer’s phone, though the full capabilities of this option have not yet been revealed by the Creoir team. All these features and functions are packed into an intricate and elegant crystal and stainless steel design. The Ibis resembles a piece of sophisticated jewelry, like a designer bracelet, rather than a smartwatch.
Another innovative element of the Creoir Ibis is its dual face. It combines an analogue watch face in the upper portion with a digital OLED display in the lower part of the watch face. And while the quartz analogue face is used for telling the time, the digital display is responsible for fulfilling the smartwatch functions of the Ibis.
“We believe the demand for smartwatches will be driven by fashion and sport brands, and the Ibis exemplifies the type of product that we create for fashion brands”, said Pekka Väyrynen, the Creoir Ltd CEO. He added, “Every brand has its own design language, so with each client we start from scratch to develop a product that specifically matches the brand and their audience. With our expertise, we can provide consumer brand owners with everything they need to have a real advantage when entering the smart device space.”
The Creoir Ibis is still a conceptual model and there has been no information revealed yet whether the Creoir product house itself is planning to manufacture the watch or they will partner up with another brand to turn the Ibis into reality.
